Transport energy

Saving energy on personal transport

Use an on-line carbon calculator to get an idea of your current level of carbon dioxide emissions from personal transport

  • defra calculator
  • Carbon Diet - a calculator we particularly like as it is easy to add incremental data, and so have a dynamic picture of your usage.

Ask yourself where you can make savings:

  • Can any journeys be avoided?
  • Do you need to own a car? Could public transport and/or taxis work equally well instead.
  • Use supermarket delivery services to avoid some journeys?
  • Walk or cycle if possible
  • Public transport instead of the car
  • Car share if possible –link to car sharing schemes
  • Drive with energy saving in mind -see here for more
  • Buy a low carbon car – in general the smaller the car, the smaller its footprint . Carbon rating of cars
  • Avoid flying if at all possible – high impact on environment
